Explore the Christmas markets in Vienna on a walking tour. Listen to Christmas carols, smell the aroma of chestnuts, stroll through the Graben decorated with 200,000 LED lights and giant chandeliers, drink mulled wine at Christkindlmarkt, and see the old town squares all decked out for the season. Start at Stephansplatz, in the very center of Vienna, and admire its major landmark, St. Stephen's Cathedral. Next, stroll through the crystal chandeliers of Graben and watch the street sparkle with millions of LED lights. Pass by the fabled St. Peter's Church in the center of Petersplatz, and on to the baroque 'Kurrentgasse'. Reach Judenplatz, one of the oldest squares in Vienna. From there it's just a few steps to the legendary 'Am Hof' square, a place steeped in history. Make your way through narrow streets over to Herrengasse, where the nobility once had their residences. Passing the Spanish Riding School, walk through the old imperial palace, the Hofburg, and its various historic inner yards. At the end, pass by the Volksgarten and the Austrian parliament building until you reach the town hall, where you will end with a hot drink at one of the world's oldest Christmas markets, the Vienna Christkindlmarkt.
