Description
Vienna, the city with a high quality of life, offers numerous exciting destinations for bird watching in the middle of the urban area. Here you will find a variety of natural habitats – some pristine, some shaped by humans – that serve as breeding grounds and important resting places for migratory birds. We spend a whole day roaming through different areas throughout Vienna. At the beginning of June, many species already have young, while others are still busy breeding. We listen to the songs of songbirds in forests and meadows, identify species by their voices and plumage, and observe water birds – ducks, herons, and grebes – on and along the waterways along our itinerary. With a little luck, we may also see birds of prey. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced birdwatcher, Urban Birding in Vienna offers an intensive day of discovering the bird life on your doorstep and rediscovering urban nature. We start at a particularly brilliant spot for birdwatching: the Vienna Central Cemetery, the second largest cemetery in Europe and a place of biodiversity. From woodpeckers to kestrels to songbirds, there is plenty to discover there. Afterwards, we will visit a special feature of Vienna, a gray heron colony in the middle of the city. There we will also have the opportunity to observe water birds and, with a little luck, even a kingfisher. After a quick lunch, we will head to the Danube Island, a true natural paradise in Vienna. With a little luck, we will even be able to observe penduline tits here. Distance covered on foot: up to 10 kilometers. Duration of the tour: 7:00 a.m. to approximately 6/7:00 p.m. Some target species: grey heron, swans, mallards, little bittern, kingfisher, penduline tit, long-eared owl, great tit, blue tit, great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker, jay, black woodpecker, buzzard, blackbird, kestrel, hooded crow, carrion crow, cormorant, wryneck, great crested grebe, little grebe, moorhen, nightingale, oriole.Includes
