Located in the former Palais of Archduke Charles, Haus der Musik is where Otto Nicolai founded the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1842. The museum showcases valuable documents and items related to the orchestra’s history.
The museum features four floors dedicated to music and sound: visitors can compose waltzes, conduct a virtual orchestra, and experiment with various sounds and instruments. The interactive Namadeus Game lets you hear your name as a Mozart composition.
Explore the lives and eras of the great Wiener Klassik masters including Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, Mahler, and Schönberg through historic documents, costumes, models, and modern installations. Temporary exhibitions focus on famous musicians or music history themes such as Viennese Modernism.
