Located on the Heumarkt, right next to the Akademietheater and the Konzerthaus, this place will ALWAYS be busy before the performance starts, as well as after it ends – so reservations are highly recommended!
You will be joined by artists as much as the audience, but most definitely also by the Viennese locals. Prices are moderate and fair - antoher reason why this is such a popular place!
If you are looking for good, solid Austrian food – this is where you get it. The menu is varied – except for vegetarians – and the desserts are to die for! Try the soups (delicious), or the “Beuschl” (it mainly consists of trachea and lung that are boiled in bouillon, cut into stripes and marinated - it is then served in a stew, nearly always accompanied by 'Serviettenknödel', a kind of bread dumpling - sounds a bit daring, but it is absolutely delicious!)....but there are many other options. For dessert: the topfenkaiserschmarr’n (fluffy pancake based on curd cheese ripped into small pieces – a delight!)
Staff is highly professional and very friendly – they will go out of their way to please you.
