Description
Escape Vienna for a full day and discover the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, one of Austria’s most beautiful regions. Travel in a comfortable modern coach with your professional driver and knowledgeable guide as you explore charming historic towns, breathtaking Danube landscapes, and famous cultural landmarks.
Your journey begins at 08:00 AM in Vienna before heading west through the picturesque countryside of Lower Austria.
Your first stop is Krems an der Donau, one of Austria’s oldest towns. Enjoy free time to stroll through its charming old town, admire the historic architecture, browse local shops, or simply soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful riverside destination.
During the Advent season, Krems becomes especially festive with Christmas decorations and seasonal markets. Depending on the date and opening times, you may have the opportunity to enjoy one of the local Advent markets during your free time.
Continue to Dürnstein, the most iconic village in the Wachau Valley, famous for its picturesque streets and distinctive blue church tower overlooking the Danube. Here you’ll have time to explore at your own pace, relax in a traditional café, or take memorable photos.
Dürnstein offers a different charm with every season. Depending on the time of year, experience blooming apricot trees in spring, green vineyards and the lively atmosphere of summer, colorful vineyard landscapes in autumn, or the peaceful character of the Wachau in winter. During selected days in the Advent season, seasonal markets and festive events add a special Christmas atmosphere to the village.
During your visit, enjoy a tasting of authentic Wachau specialties, including regional apricot products, local spirits, and refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase local products directly from the producer if you wish.
The tour continues to Melk, home to the world-famous Melk Abbey, one of Europe’s finest Baroque masterpieces. Enjoy free time to explore the area surrounding the abbey, admire its magnificent architecture from the outside, and take in panoramic views over the Danube Valley. If you wish, you may also visit the abbey’s interior independently (entrance fee not included).
Melk also changes with the seasons. In the warmer months, enjoy the historic town and views surrounding the abbey, while during the Advent season, Christmas decorations and seasonal events create a festive atmosphere around the town.
Throughout the day, your guide will share fascinating stories about the history, culture, traditions, and wine-making heritage of the Wachau Valley, making the journey as enjoyable as the destinations themselves.
After a relaxing day discovering the beauty of the Wachau, return to Vienna, arriving at approximately 06:00 PM.
