Description
This guided gravel bike tour starts with a hotel pickup and a visit to Mödling’s historical center and castle. After a short coffee break and a brief bike ride nearby, you will continue to Freigut Thallern, an Austrian winery with roots dating back to 1141.
Next, cycle to the quaint town of Gumpoldskirchen, known for its long-standing wine tradition and scenic landscapes. You can opt to taste local wines in the town’s central square before heading onward.
The ride continues via a dirt road beneath the Anninger mountain range to Baden, a trail suited for gravel and mountain bikes. Along the way, you will pass several local Heurigen wineries found on hiking routes.
In Baden, climb to Rauchenstein and Raucheneck castles, historical fortifications protecting the city's western side. These castles offer expansive views and rich history.
Afterwards, cycle approximately 15 kilometers on gravel paths to the Merkenstein Castle ruins, involving an ascent from 200 to 400 meters. The climb is manageable and rewards you with striking sights.
On the return journey, stop at Kottingbrunn Castle, a well-preserved fortress surrounded by nature. The tour concludes along the Eurovelo 9 bike path, which passes vineyards and villages on a route towards Vienna.
