Description
For the Habsburgs, marriages were far more than a private matter – they decided on power, territories, and the fate of Europe. This walking tour through Vienna follows in the footsteps of Habsburg weddings and marriages from the Middle Ages to the end of the monarchy and combines grand history with very human moments.
We visit the places where emperors, archdukes and princesses said 'I do', and we observe proxy weddings, politically forced marriages and surprisingly happy partnerships.
From Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy to Maria Theresa and Franz Stephan to Franz Joseph and Elisabeth, we show how differently marriage was lived – between a sense of duty, closeness, tragedy, and everyday life.
It's not just about magnificent ceremonies, but also about timeless questions: Why get married? And what happens when personal wishes and expectations conflict with family or politics?
With charm and the occasional wink, this tour invites you to take a fresh look at historical marriages – and perhaps also to see your own relationship, an upcoming wedding, or a special wedding anniversary in a new light. Ideal for couples, hen and stag parties, and anyone who wants to experience Vienna from a very personal perspective.
