Description

Lower Austria is the birthplace of Austrian viticulture. This private wine tasting tour takes you to the forests and vineyards of the Thermal Region, just south of Vienna. After a 30-minute train ride to the Vienna Woods, spend a day exploring wine country.

Summer (April to October): Start with a hike in Baden, a spa town once frequented by Beethoven. Walk along forest trails to an elevated viewpoint overlooking the Vienna Basin. Then explore neighboring vineyards, walking among lush vines.

Winter (November to March): Take the train directly to the vineyards of one of Austria’s oldest wine estates, rich in medieval history. Learn how monastic orders influenced Austrian winemaking and sample local sekt (sparkling wine) to celebrate your arrival.

Both tour versions continue with lunch in the wine village of Gumpoldskirchen at a traditional Austrian tavern. Afterwards, visit a local winery for an extensive wine tasting and a Q&A session with an expert winemaker. The tour ends with a short train ride back to Vienna’s city center.
