Description

Enter one of Europe’s leading centers for contemporary art at the Kunsthalle Wien MuseumsQuartier, located inside the architectural ensemble of Vienna’s MQ — one of the largest cultural districts in the world. This spacious venue combines monumental contemporary design with the historic Hofstallungen, creating a dramatic backdrop for ambitious exhibitions and international artistic dialogue. The MuseumsQuartier location opened in 2001 inside the former Winter Riding Arena, expanded into a modern exhibition hall. With more than 1,600 m² of gallery space across two floors, it is the institution’s largest site and the home of major solo shows, thematic exhibitions, and groundbreaking contemporary works. As Vienna’s foremost institution for contemporary art, the Kunsthalle Wien brings together global artistic voices, scholarly research, and original commissions. The space is known for its immersive installations, bold curatorial concepts, and exhibitions that rethink how we see the world — socially, politically, and visually. Set within the bustling MuseumsQuartier Wien, surrounded by cafés, museums, and city life, this venue offers both depth and scale. It invites visitors to explore contemporary art across diverse media while experiencing one of Vienna’s most vibrant cultural hubs. On View: Richard Hawkins – Potentialities A major survey presenting over 100 works — paintings, collages, ceramics, sculpture — exploring desire, visual pleasure, and references ranging from classical art to pop culture. Includes mature themes. Into the Unseen – The Walther Collection An atmospheric exhibition investigating what photography reveals — and what it hides — through works by international artists examining memory, absence, and visibility. Guan Xiao – Teenager New sculptures and paintings reflecting on the emotional uncertainty and rebellious energy of adolescence, presented through surreal objects, textures, and forms. Sophie von Hellermann – Get Your Head Around It A 62-meter painted frieze combining myths, knowledge, and dreamlike imagery into a sweeping narrative across the Kunsthalle façade.
