The Bermudadreieck or Bermuda Triangle is a well known place here in Vienna. It got its famous name because in earlier days, many looking for a place to party all night got lost here in the process.... waking up the next morning having absolutely no idea what happened is standard procedure here!
You can go absolutely wild in the Bermuda Dreieck - and easily find and befriend likeminded people: mostly younger locals, visitors from abroad or young business people looking to relax after a hard day of work. To be honest, the bars are not the most trendy or classy anymore, on the contrary... they are rather on the expensive side. Some of the most known ones are The First Floor Bar, The Roter Engel (Red Angel), The Bermuda Bräu, The Philisoph and The Magazin Bar
The Bermudadreieck is located in the historic center of Vienna, in one of its oldest part right next to the Jewish Synagogue. You just need to head right down from the St. Stephan's Cathedral in the direction of the Danube Channel and you will stumble right across this famous party mile.
The Bermuda Dreieck came to fame during the Vienna′s decadent 1980ies - don't forget, Vienna was always quite behind and conservative compared to the rest of Europe in those days of the 'cold war' - the city only started to 'loosen up' approx. 10 years before the iron curtain fell in 1989.
The 1980ies was Vienna's peak time of partying, of cultural renovation (Hunderwasser suddenly appeared on the scene), and of new underground musicians popping up in the scene - Falco being Vienna's most famous singer at that time. And this revolution went on right here in the Bermuda Dreieck area. Unfortunately, this glorious time is now in the past, but the bars and parties are still there....and still serving and catering those thirsty souls looking for a party.
On weekdays, everything is calm after 10 pm. On the weekends however, be aware of usually drunk youngsters populating the streets around the Bermuda Dreieck late at night....
