Best Places to Watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Vienna
Best Places to Watch the World Cup 2026 in Vienna
Austria is back at the World Cup for the first time since 1998. With the whole country buzzing, I expected Vienna to roll out the full fan-zone treatment — giant screens at Rathausplatz, a dedicated area in the Prater, the lot. It's not happening.
Stadt Wien has confirmed there is no official city or FIFA fan zone anywhere in Vienna for the 2026 World Cup. The Rathausplatz is already in build-up for the Filmfestival (running 4 July to 6 September), and the time difference kills any plan for large-scale outdoor screenings. With the tournament hosted across the USA, Canada and Mexico, most group-stage kick-offs land between 3am and 6am Vienna time. Not exactly Schanigarten hours.
But Vienna still has plenty of places to watch, from sports bars pulling all-nighters to summer gardens screening every evening match. Here's where to go.
Quick note on TV rights: Every match is free-to-air in Austria, split between ORF and ServusTV. Any venue with a TV can legally show any game — no paywall, no special subscription required.
Austria's Group Stage Schedule (Vienna Time, CEST)
| Match | Date | Time | Channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Austria vs Jordan | Wed 17 June | 06:00 | ORF |
| Austria vs Argentina | Mon 22 June | 19:00 | ServusTV |
| Austria vs Algeria | Sun 28 June | 04:00 | ORF |
Austria vs Argentina at 19:00 on 22 June is the night to be out. It's the only group match at a civilised hour, and every venue in the city will be rammed. The other two require either an early alarm or a very late night. Plan accordingly.
Venues Showing Every Match (Including the 3am Kick-offs)
Most places in Vienna won't stay open for a 4am kick-off. These two will.
Immersive Center at the Donauturm
Donaupark, 1220 (U1 Alte Donau)
The largest public-viewing setup in Vienna this summer. Four big screens (4–6m), professional sound, around 2,000m² outdoors and 1,000m² indoors, so it runs rain or shine. Night matches move inside. They're showing all Austria games live and all knockout rounds through to the final. Tickets start at €19.90 for a guaranteed seat with all-you-can-snack (popcorn, nachos, chips — drinks extra). For Austria games and quarter-finals onward, there's a €99.90 all-inclusive option with unlimited food and drinks. Paying for entry isn't ideal when most bars are free, but the guaranteed seat and big-screen setup justify it for the key matches. Check their full match schedule and book at donauturm.at.
Champions Sports Bar & Restaurant
Parkring 12A (inside the Vienna Marriott), 1010
Vienna's biggest dedicated sports bar and the most reliable venue for this World Cup. Champions is confirmed to show all 104 matches from 11 June to 19 July, regardless of the hour. 24 screens plus 3 projectors in 4K, 13 beers on tap, and an American-style menu of burgers, wings and ribs. For the 6am kick-offs they serve breakfast; for the 4am games, goulash and sausages. Reserve ahead at champions-vienna.com — this will be the busiest spot in the city for every Austria match.
Best Outdoor Screenings & Public Viewings
If your team is playing at a reasonable hour — roughly 6pm to 11pm Vienna time — these outdoor spots are where summer football in Vienna feels best.
Francis
Julius-Tandler-Platz 3, 1090
Open-air neighbourhood viewing with a large outdoor screen, showing all matches kicking off between 6pm and midnight — over 40 games in total, including Austria vs Argentina. Free entry, space for up to 500 guests, and a relaxed summer vibe. VIP tables for groups of 8 are available with all-you-can-drink or shared plate packages.
Gleis//Garten
Eichenstraße 2, 1120 (U4/U6 Längenfeldgasse)
Vienna's first food hall, set in a converted 1907 tram depot. An XXL screen, around 900 capacity, nine food stalls and an in-house brewery (Vienna Kraft). Showing all primetime matches but not the overnight games. Walk-ins welcome; groups of 5+ can reserve. Probably the best food-and-football combination in the city this summer.
Salettl
Altes AKH campus, 1090
A perennial public-viewing favourite with a "beach" Schanigarten — sand, deck chairs, palms — and over 150 seats. Running a World Cup edition from 11 June to 19 July with reserved and first-come areas. For the Austria vs Jordan game on 17 June at 6am, they're doing a special early opening with a breakfast buffet (pre-order required). For big matches, arrive about three hours early.
das Ulrich & Erich
St.-Ulrichs-Platz, 1070
These two Neubau venues are turning the square into a fan zone from 14 June to 19 July with two big outdoor screens, soul food and draft beer. For the 6am Austria vs Jordan match on 17 June, they're offering breakfast bags. One of the best neighbourhood atmospheres in the city.
Palais Freiluft
Garden of Palais Auersperg, 1080
Selected matches shown outdoors on a giant LED wall in the gardens of a baroque palace. Confirmed for the opening match (Mexico vs South Africa, 11 June) and Austria vs Argentina. A more relaxed, upscale open-air option.
Donauinselfest
Donauinsel · 3–5 July, free entry
Vienna's massive free open-air music festival is screening two knockout-stage matches: Friday 3 July at 8pm and Saturday 4 July at 7pm. Austria won't be in either game, but watching a World Cup knockout match surrounded by 100,000 festival-goers is an experience in itself.

Special Match-Day Events
Café Sperl — Breakfast Viewing
Gumpendorfer Straße 11, 1060 · 17 June, from 5am
One of Vienna's most beautiful historic coffeehouses is opening at 5am for the Austria vs Jordan match, serving the Austrian national team's official coffee blend roasted by Alt Wien. Watching the World Cup in a Viennese Kaffeehaus at dawn — it doesn't get more local than that.
