Rathaus - City Hall

The Rathaus has an impressive tower with the 'Iron Knight of City Hall' (Eiserner Rathausmann) perched on top - this figure has become one of the symbols of Vienna.
The Vienna City Hall is the seat of the mayor and governor of Vienna, of the City Council and of the Assembly.
In front of the Rathaus you will find the Rathauspark, an attractively laid-out garden with two fountains and some interesting monuments.
Of course you can visit the building, there are several guided tours that will give you an impressive insight of the beauty of assembly halls and huge representative ball rooms, but also a good impression on the history of Vienna. What can you see? The most interesting tours are the Municipal and State Libraries as well as Vienna's Archives that hold many key documents of Vienna's history.
All that said, if you are pressed for time - stick to admiring the building from the outside, the inside is only worth it to those really interested in it.
