Description

'The streets of Vienna are paved with culture, the streets of other cities with asphalt. ' These words from the great Karl Kraus are still as true as they were one hundred years ago. But see it for yourself, once we explore the inner yards of the old imperial palace, the baroque alleys, the mysterious gateways between the houses and the old palais filled with history. On this tour, I'll make sure you see Vienna as the modern city that it is, located right in the center of Europe, but which is yet filled with a two thousand year old history that is still kept very much alive. A lot of people that come to visit Vienna are only looking for the imperial buidlings and the stories of kings and emperors and tend to miss all this old alleys and myths, that come with them, which always fascinated me already from a very young age. ·We start the tour at the very center of Vienna with its 900 year old Saint Stephen's Cathedral, that still marks the very center of Vienna to this day. ·We'll then stroll along the Graben, the former moat of the roman city wall, now most lively street, where we will see the plague column in its center. ·Via Bräunerstraße we will then walk up to the old imperial palace, the Hofburg, seeing its inner yards and countless reminders to the imperial past. ·Via Saint Michaels Square we will go down the Kohlmarkt, passing by the famous Cafe Demel until we reach the Kurrentgasse, one of the last remaining barogue streets in Vienna. ·Walking through Judenplatz and Hoher Markt we will then explore the old medieval center of Vienna. ·At Saint Ruperts square we will see the oldest still standing church in Vienna but also one of the most lively areas of the city to this day. ·Going through the old 'Greek Quarter' we will then sneak through some typical 'through houses' back to Saint Stephens Cathedral. Don't just see what Vienna looks like, see what Vienna is.
